Checkered Serving Tray Built for Guests and for Display

Chai for six, or an ottoman that needed anchoring. This large square tray handles both. Its full surface is laid in a checkered mosaic that alternates crisp polished white resin tiles with warm natural wood blocks, and the pattern carries right up over the raised outer borders so there is no plain edge anywhere. At 41 cm square with a solid 2 kg build, it is the kind of piece that gets used constantly and still looks composed.

Key Features

• Generous 41 cm square: Large enough for a full tea service, six cups and a plate of snacks, or a complete bar setup.
• Full surface checkered mosaic: White resin tiles alternated with natural wood blocks across the base and up the raised borders.
• Raised edges: A defined lip that helps keep cups, glasses and small bowls in place while you carry it.
• Solid construction: A robust MDF base with a 2 kg weight that feels genuinely stable in the hand rather than flimsy.
• Double duty design: Serves guests when you need it and works as a coffee table centrepiece the rest of the time.
• Handcrafted in India: Every tile is cut, laid and polished by hand by skilled artisans.

How to Style It

Left on a coffee table, it turns scattered items into an arrangement. Fill it with a candle, a small plant and a stack of coasters, and clear it when guests arrive. On an ottoman, it creates the flat surface the ottoman never had.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I place hot cups and teapots directly on it?
A. Use coasters or a trivet for anything straight off the stove. The tray handles warm cups of chai and coffee comfortably, but direct contact with very hot vessels can mark the resin over time.

Q. Is it safe to wash the tray with water?
A. Do not soak or rinse it. Wipe spills immediately with a lightly damp cloth and dry it at once. Standing water is the main thing that damages inlaid wood over the long term.

Q. How many cups will it hold at once?
A. At 41 cm square it comfortably takes six cups with a plate of snacks alongside, which covers most family gatherings without a second trip to the kitchen.

Q. Does it work as a bar or serving tray for parties?
A. Very well. The raised borders help keep bottles and glasses steady, and the size suits a compact home bar setup on a console or sideboard.

Q. Is this a practical wedding or housewarming gift?
A. It is among the most used gifts you can give. Trays get daily service in Indian homes, and this one is handsome enough to stay on display between uses instead of disappearing into a cupboard.
